Some artist appreciation
Hey! Wanted to share one of my favourite artists from the past year: Shaina McCoy. She works in oil to create works based on her family members. She has a really wonderful technique of building up thick layers of glossy paint that show defined brushstrokes. Even though the inspiration for her work is very personal, I feel like the faces left blank invite you to project your own narratives onto the subjects. I love how she depicts a broad variety of family settings, people of all ages & skin tones in various positions and compositions. Hope you like her work too!

Thank you for introducing Shaina to us. I agree that when artists leave the faces blank it invites us to put our emotions into their work, so the work will always have new interpretations as time goes by.

Her use of flat colour surfaces and the colour pallet reminds me of Thenjiwe's work. 🤔
