INTRODUCTION: Artist PEX Pitakpong Jamesripong

Today I would like to introduce thai artist PEX which we discovered in early 2019 during his solo show “Portrait” at Echoone Nanzuka in Thailand.
His colorful figurative paintings gained immediately our interest, reminding us at the beginning a bit of Nara as well as Calleja but in its very own, unique style. PEX painting technique and skills as well as his eye for details are exceptional and it was clear to us that we wanted to add his works to our collection.
PEX pictures often seem to be only funny and naive but there is more behind them…..
In this first solo show at Echoone Nanzuka his character “Mari, the wonder girl” was used by him to address the general political situation and to criticize the destruction of our environment. PEX processed various topics in these pictures from global warming to the extinction of polar bears - all messaged through different portraits of his “Mari” figure (1st 3 pictures below).
In his second solo show “Twins”, PEX took the viewer on a journey to show that a lot of things in life have 2 sides and therefore the quality of a certain character should not be judged only by looking at one side (2nd 3 pictures below).
“In order to convey my emotional response towards society, along with my innermost feelings, I use drawings rather than words…”
PEX was writing these words during the lock down period 2020/2021 for his new book “My Diary” that just recently was released by Thailand company kproductions that also manages him.
These drawings express very impressive his personal handling of this pandemic situation and are therefore sometimes funny, angry, sad and political (pictures 7 to 9 below).
In May 2022 PEX will have a big exhibition Thailand which we look forward to. We will see mostly big format canvas but also smaller drawing on paper and cardboard (WIP - please see below).
Alongside with a series of new paintings and drawings, PEX will also release a series of sculptures in bronze, stainless steal and resin (clay modelling in the picture below - this will then be the base model of the metal production mold).
