Super Future Kid is known for creating technicolour painting, sculpture and installation. Using spray paint and acrylic she recreates her own fantastical world. Even though the settings are often like surreal dreams, her depictions of subjects engaging in every day actions are incredibly relatable. Similarly the feelings of positivity and relaxation that her works evoke are universal and transport you back to a time when you viewed the world with childlike wonder.
Super Future Kid sees her distinct style as heavily influenced by her own childhood. Born in East Germany during communism, she spent the first 8 years of her life unaware of the western world. The fall of the Berlin Wall and her subsequent introduction to Western consumerism caused a bit of a culture shock and made a lasting impression that can be seen in her work today. The nostalgia for pop culture of the 80s and 90s shows in the inclusion of bright neon colours, musical objects & toys.
Would love to hear what recurring elements you have seen in her work over the years? For me it’s definitely the cowboys 🤠
