New collector ✨

I, like many others on the Collective, have only recently started my collection. Having been with AA since March, I've been fortunate enough to be exposed to a number of amazing works and artists... but where do I start?? I'd love to hear some of your stories around how you started your collections as well as any top tips on what I should be buying with a limited budget 🖼

Somewhat newish art collector here as well! I agree with @jvp's FOMO comment. I look at the art market primarly through the local galleries that I have available to me as that tends to be more inline with my budget, and then get prints from AA and elsewhere for artists whose pieces are normally way out there for me! Visiting art fairs is also a great way to learn about other artists and galleries, and as much as it pains me to say it - the instagram algorthim is great for discovering artists as well.

I would say, especially now, don't chase something because of FOMO. There will be a good time to buy. My first purchase is one I have a bit of a love hate relationship with. The artist changed style a bit and has more of a style that speaks to me less than before. However, in isolation I still like the piece and it reminds me of New York where I spent some time. Since then I got a few things from Avant arte and a few other prints and learned another lesson: if you buy everything framed you run out of space real fast haha. So now I try to be more selective, accumulate a little higher budget (given the space limitations) and besides that I buy prints with the idea to maybe have some framed in the future depending how they fit my apartment and how they speak to me after some time.
