How Kara Joslyn's edition was made 🕯

This week we released our first edition with Kara Joslyn. For the edition we wanted to create something special that would include the optical illusions that are so prominent in Kara's work.
The edition is made of multiple layers of perspex and museum grade Optium sheets that create depth. Each layer of printed material is followed by a layer of unprinted material. For the printing we used an UV flat bed that uses UV curable inks to first create a white underbase topped with black tonal details.
Then the printed and un-printed sheets are loosely bound together with metallic 'binding screws'. These blocks are then diamond polished to a flush edge, however this creates dust in between each sheet. So after the polishing each block has to be de-assembled and cleaned, and then re-assembled post-cleaning, all the while keeping the perspex as dust-free as possible.
As a last step before the final assemblage, the artist's signature and each unique edition number was engraved onto the inside of the front facing sheet of Optium, so that it is encased within the artwork.
There are still a few editions left so for full details check out: https://avantarte.com/products/good-thing-you-are-not-alone
